Oh, no. Irene didn’t die in books. I remember that she just left with her husband. Yeah, I just hope Moffat wouldn’t make John suffer again. :’)

Actually, although she doesn’t die during the story, Irene had died by the time that Watson wrote “A Scandal in Bohemia.” In the opening of that tale, he refers to her as “the late Irene Adler, of dubious and questionable memory.”
